Physical Characterization of Solid-Liquid Slurries at High Weight Fractions Using Optical and Ultrasonic Methods

چکیده
Research Objective The goal of this proposed work is to directly address the need for rapid on-line characterization of the physical properties of HLW slurries during all phases of the remediation process, from in-tank characterization of sediments to monitoring of the concentration, particle size, and degree of agglomeration and gelation of slurries during transport. This will be done with both optical and ultrasonic methods. There are three tasks: 1) develop optical and acoustic measurements to provide the fundamental science needed for successful device development and implementation, 2) develop theories that describe the interrelationship between wave propagation and the physical properties of the slurry, and 3) solve, in the framework of these theories, the inversion problem and compare them with the experimental measurements to non-intrusively characterize slurries.

Batch gravitational sedimentation of slurries.
We investigated the batch settling behavior of the kaolin slurry and the UK ball clay slurry at various initial solids fractions (phi(0)s) using a computerized axial tomography scanner (CATSCAN). The spatio-temporal evolutions of solids fractions in the consolidating sediments were continuously monitored. Since the interface between the sediment and the supernatant of the investigated slurries ...

Objective(s) The purpose of the present study was to use the solid dispersion (SD) technique to improve the dissolution rates of indomethacin (IMC). Materials and Methods IMC solid dispersions in PVP K30 and isomalt (GALEN IQ 990) were prepared using the solvent evaporation technique and a hot melt method in weight ratios of 2, 10 and 30% (IMC:PVP). Solid dispersions and physical mixtures we...
متن کاملRheological Characteristics of Ice Slurries Based on Propylene- and Ethylene-Glycol at High Ice Fractions
Abstract—Ice slurries are considered as a promising phasechanging secondary fluids for air-conditioning, packaging or cooling industrial processes. An experimental study has been here carried out to measure the rheological characteristics of ice slurries. Ice slurries consist in a solid phase (flake ice crystals) and a liquid phase. The later is composed of a mixture of liquid water and an addi...
متن کاملUltrasonic-Assisted Matrix Solid-Phase Dispersion and High-Performance Liquid Chromatography as an Improved Methodology for Determination of Oleuropein from Olive Leaves
In this study, ultrasonic-assisted matrix solid-phase dispersion (UA-MSPD) as a new sample preparation method for natural product analysis was developed. Influential parameters of the UA-MSPD method was optimized using oleuropein content of olive leaves as a model analyte. Main parameters of the proposed technique such as ultrasonic time, amplitude and pulse, sorbent material, the ratio of samp...
متن کاملPurification and characterization of antiviral protein from silkworm fecal matter
Antiviral proteins (AVP), present in silkworm fecal matter, show activity against nuclear polyhedrosis virus (NPV) in vitro and in vivo. The extract of silkworm fecal matter prepared in phosphate buffer solution of pH 7.5 was subjected to 50% solid ammonium sulfate precipitation to enrich AVP, then which was dialyzed. The dialysate was applied to the column containing silica gel-G, the column e...
